Introduction:
- Released in 1996.
- The most extensive research on the benefits of
exercise.
- Surgeon General's Warning: Failure to exercise
may be detrimental to your health. Failure to
exercise a minimum of 5 times per week for at least
30 minutes in duration each time is the equivalent
of smoking 1 pack of cigarettes each day. What this
means is that exercise is no longer just good for
you, it is bad for you if you don't exercise.
General Facts:
- 80% of disease is lifestyle related --
poor nutrition, stress, smoking, etc.
- Not exercising makes a person 3 times more likely
to suffer from depression.
- More than 60% of the general population does not
exercise regularly.
Surgeon General's Facts:
- Over 67% of the general population is overweight
and/or obese.
- 50,000,000 Americans considered clinically obsese.
- 120,000,000 Americans suffer from chronic stress.
- 34,000,000 Americans suffer from depressive illnesses.
- 80,000,000 Americans are under so much stress,
they are doing damage to their heart.
- 26,000,000 Americans have heart problems.
- 30,000,000 Americans have high blood pressure.
- 37,000,000 Americans suffer from hypertension.
- 40,000,000 Americans suffer from sleep disorders.
- 58,000,000 Americans have arthritis.
- 20,000,000 Americans have lower back problems.
